Removing Odours From Your Rental Property

Cooking naturally creates aromas and odours whether the meal is cooked to perfection or not. Sometimes cooking odours can linger making your rental smell less than inviting. Banish cooking odours and clear the air with these helpful solutions.

One of the quickest and easiest defence against cooking odours is your stove vent. Always turn on the vent before cooking. This will suck out the odours as you cook, helping to eliminate lingering odours. Keep the vent on after you’ve finished cooking for at least 5 minutes, or longer strong odours.

Prevent odours from having a chance to stick in your rental by absorbing them as you cook. Simply placing a bowl of baking soda on the counter while you cook can work to absorb odours. Alternatively, mix a half cup of vinegar and a cup of water in a saucepan and boil as you cook. The vinegar solution will neutralize the cooking odours leaving your kitchen smelling fresh and clean.

Coffee drinkers can naturally neutralize odors simply by brewing a fresh cup of coffee. The scent coffee produces as it brews works as an odour eliminator. After you enjoy your coffee, spread the wet coffee grounds on a plate or baking sheet to dry. The nitrogen in the coffee grounds will absorb odours as they dry.

We all know cleaning as we cook helps eliminate the mess after meals, but did you know it can help with odours too? Dirty dishes and pots contribute to lingering smells. Wash pots, pans, and dishes as you finish with them to combat lingering odours.

Your fridge and microwave can contribute to home odours too. Keep a bowl of baking soda in your fridge and replace it every three months. For your microwave, giving it a thorough cleaning with vinegar and water can refresh your microwave easily

Stovetop simmers can fill your rental with fresh scents, but only when done properly. Simmers should always be watched so that liquid doesn’t evaporate and kept at low temperature to avoid boiling. Keeping a fire extinguisher in your kitchen is a smart idea, but make sure you know how to use your fire extinguisher properly
