Spring Cleaning: A Room By Room Guide

Spring brings the end of the long dreary days of winter, ushering in the warmth and sunlight.

Here is a room-by-room spring cleaning guide to help you get your apartment sunshine ready.

Kitchen

Your kitchen is one of the most used rooms in your apartment, so naturally it's to be expected that it's going to be dirty and need a deep clean. Cleaning your appliances is the first big step in cleaning your kitchen. Clean your stovetop and oven of stuck on grease to help them shine, while also making future cleanings easier. The next big task is cleaning your fridge both inside and out, while ridding yourself of old and unwanted food products. Once you've had a chance to clear out all the old food, be sure to wipe down all of the shelves with a disinfectant. The next step is to clean all of your minor appliances like your microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and anything else you use frequently. The last thing you should do is clean out your cupboards and wipe them down.

Outdoors

The snow in the winter can hide a lot of unwanted waste, while also causing other problems or damage from large storms. You should go around your property and pick up all garbage, while simultaneously checking for any damage or things that look like they could cause damage. It's important to inspect your roof and eavestrough, as far too often they are neglected after a long, stormy winter. Once you've done that, give your lawn a good rake, lay down mulch for your garden, and bring out your lawn mower to tackle the quickly growing grass.

Dining & Living Rooms

In terms of cleaning up long overdue messes, your dining room and living room likely aren't going to need a big deep cleaning. With these two rooms being some of the most used it's more than likely that you are consistently cleaning them. There are a few things you can clean though, starting with your air exchange or vents, making sure they are clear of dust and clutter. The next thing to clean is your windows and window sills, as they have likely accumulated dust and dirt over the course of the winter.

Bedroom & Bathrooms

In the depths of winter, sometimes we just want to get into our bedrooms and crash for the night and not worry about cleaning. The same can go for the bathroom, we just want to get in and out and not worry about all the crevices that accumulate dirt and grime. In your bedroom, give your windows and walls a good wash, while sweep, mopping or vacuuming your floor. For your bathroom, you're going to want to do a deep clean of your bathtub and toilet, while clearing up any unnecessary products just sitting in your cupboards. Cleaning your bathroom floor and grout in between your tiles is a must, as there's no telling what kind of bacteria and grime is stuck to your floor. Lastly, give everything a good wipe down with a disinfectant, and you're ready to enjoy the warmth of the changing seasons.
