We love Halloween and encourage our residents to decorate their rentals for the season.
If you’ve never decorated a space before, keep it simple and cost effective by creating some of your own decorations and choosing just a few well placed costly items.
DIY Halloween decorations can be as simple or elaborate as you like. Fake spider webs easily add a spooky effect to bookcases, cabinets, and outdoor bushes. Turn white sheets into ghosts; inflate a white balloon to place under the sheet for the head, then colour eyes in permanent marker and hang inside or out. Decorate your windows with large window clings in either a spooky scene or cute Halloween characters. Alternatively, cut out stencils of characters, bats, or gravestones in black poster board and stick them in the windows. When the blinds are drawn and the lights are on, pedestrians will clearly see the silhouettes.
Every room of your rental can get a little spooky for the season. In the bathroom, add small plastic spiders to the inside of your soap dispenser, swap out your shower curtain for a themed curtain, or add a Halloween rug. Accent your furniture with bright orange, purple, and green throw pillows and lay a Halloween throw blanket on the couch. In the kitchen, use washi tape to create a spider’s web or a spooky tree on your cupboards.
Pumpkins and Halloween go hand in hand, but that doesn’t mean you have to buy the biggest ones. If your space is small, opt for pie pumpkins and gourds for decoration. Pumpkins don’t have to be carved either, you can paint them, stick stickers on them, or decorate them by wrapping with gauze and adding googly eyes.
In order to keep your rental in good shape, avoid decorations that won’t remove easily. Command poster strips, hooks, and fasteners are easy to use and damage free, making them perfect for rental décor.
